Contemporary Terrace House
This Terrace House that was designed by Turner + Associates Architects is a contemporary interpretation of the victorian terrace house. A pair of terraces over three levels opening to the north, capturing natural light and panoramic city views. Considered use of space incorporating internal voids. Palette of carefully detailed natural materials. Total site area 306m2.

The locale comprise a relatively level street with small terrace subdivisions. These are interspersed with double lot free-standing early twentieth century houses and larger consolidated lots with multi residential buildings and light industrial uses.

The site was previously occupied by a single storey federation weatherboard cottage. Prior to subdivision, it had an approximate area of 306 sqm and both street and rear lane frontages of just over 10 metres.
From the street, terraces appear tp be two storey, consistent with the character and proportion of neighbouring terraces. In reality, whilst the bulk of the building is sited towards the street, sensitive to traditional setbacks, the rear of the terraces are three storeys, opening up to spacious landscaped urban courtyards, taking advantage of aspect, natural lighting, ventilation and the skyline views.

Careful detailing and a restained pallete of materials, neutral colours and finishes have helped to create a sophisticated response to a simple and clear design brief.
