Cutler Anderson Architects has designed this large house located on a hill in Nappa Valley, California. The site is separated for three distinctive zones: the oak forest, the meadow and the vineyard. The L-shaped main body of the house encloses two open sides of forest-bounded meadow, which serves as an observable play area for children. A studio that is placed in the oak groove is connected to the house by trellised walk. A guest house is placed in the vineyard and is connected to the main house by a bridge that is set at knee height to the vine rows. The buildings themselves are made of rammed earth walls on the non-private sides and rammed earth piers and wood frame on the sides accessible to the land.
